PubConvert for Mac is on the Mac App Store

There has never been a Mac version of Microsoft Publisher. If you use a Mac, a .pub file has always meant borrowing a Windows PC, or asking someone else to open it for you.

PubConvert now has a Mac app. It runs the same engine as this website, on your own Mac. You can get it from the Mac App Store.

What it does

The app opens Microsoft Publisher .pub files and converts them to:

  • PDF, for sharing and printing
  • Word (.docx), for editing in Microsoft Word, Pages or Google Docs
  • IDML, for editing in Adobe InDesign or Affinity Publisher
  • ODG, for editing in LibreOffice Draw

You don't need Publisher, Windows or a Microsoft account. Files from older versions of Publisher work too.

How it differs from the website

  • Whole folders at once. Drop in one file or a whole folder. The app converts files in parallel, and it can save each result next to the original or put them all in one folder. If the app quits during a batch, it picks up where it left off.
  • Your files stay on your Mac. Every conversion runs on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded.
  • It uses your fonts. The app uses the fonts installed on your Mac, including the fonts that come with Microsoft Office. If a document uses a font you don't have, the app tells you which font it replaced and what it used instead. You can install the font and convert again.
  • No free preview in the app. To see how your files come out before you buy, use the free preview on this website. It runs the same engine.

Price and languages

The app is a one-time purchase in the Mac App Store, with no subscription. The App Store shows the price in your currency. In the US it is $49.99. The app is a separate purchase from the website and from the Windows app.

The app is available in 16 languages, the same as this website. It needs macOS 10.13 or later.

Which one to use

If you have a few files, the website is enough: preview free, pay once, download. If you have a whole archive, or you want your files to stay on your own Mac, the app is the better fit. On a Windows PC, use PubConvert for Windows.
