What we collect

Files you upload

When you convert a file, we temporarily store it on our servers only for the duration of the conversion process. Once your converted file is ready and delivered to you, we automatically delete both the original and converted files from our servers. We do not keep copies of your files.

IP address

We collect your IP address to implement rate limiting (preventing abuse of our service). We do not use IP addresses to identify or track individual users beyond this purpose.

Payment information

If you buy access, your payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card number. Stripe handles all payment data securely. You can read Stripe's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your payment information. This applies to purchases on pubconvert.com. Purchases of the Microsoft Store build go through Microsoft, not Stripe.

Email address

If you buy access, we collect your email address to send you your magic link and provide customer support if you lose your link. We do not use your email for marketing or share it with third parties.

Cookies

We may use cookies for language preference and analytics. We no longer use cookies to count free conversions. The free tier is a watermarked preview only, with no file downloads.

Microsoft Store desktop app

The Microsoft Store build of PubConvert Desktop converts .pub files on your Windows PC. Files you choose in the Store app are not uploaded to PubConvert servers for conversion.

Purchase and updates for the Store build go through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft handles the payment data for that purchase; we do not receive your card details.

The Store build does not use PubConvert license activation, does not send a machine hash to us, and does not use a PubConvert self-updater. Updates arrive through the Microsoft Store.

If you use pubconvert.com in a browser, the web rules in this policy apply as usual: the file is uploaded temporarily for conversion and deleted afterwards, payments go through Stripe, access is by email magic link, and your IP address is used for rate limiting.

Mac App Store desktop app

The Mac App Store build of PubConvert Desktop converts .pub files on your Mac. Your files are never uploaded to PubConvert servers.

Purchase and updates for the Mac build go through the Mac App Store. Apple processes the payment. We never receive your card details.

The Mac build does not use PubConvert license activation. It does not send a machine hash or any other identifier to us, and it has no self-updater. Updates arrive through the Mac App Store.

The Mac build makes no network requests of its own. It contains no analytics, tracking, crash reporting or advertising. We do not collect any data from it.

The Mac build runs in Apple's App Sandbox. It can only read and write the files and folders you choose. It remembers the folders you allowed, so it does not ask again. This list is stored only on your Mac.

To render your documents, the Mac build reads the fonts installed on your Mac, including the fonts that come with Microsoft Office. It reads them on your Mac only. It never copies them or sends them anywhere.

Your settings, such as language, output folder and conversion preferences, are stored only on your Mac.

How we use your data

• To preview and convert your files (the core service)
• To prevent abuse through rate limiting
• To process payments for access
• To send desktop-launch notifications if you signed up for them on pubconvert.com
• To send you your magic link via email

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We rely on a few service providers to run the service: Stripe for payments, Resend for email delivery, and Cloudflare for content delivery.

Data retention

Uploaded files: Deleted when conversion or download finishes. Abandoned jobs are removed within one hour. We do not keep your .pub for reuse.
IP addresses: stored temporarily for rate limiting, automatically purged.
Payment records: Retained by Stripe as required for financial records.
Email addresses: Retained to provide access to your magic link if needed.
Cookies: stored on your device until you clear them.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you're in the European Union, you have the right to:

• Request access to any personal data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Object to processing of your data

Security

We use HTTPS encryption for all data transfers. Files are processed in isolated environments and deleted promptly. Payment processing is handled by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top when we make changes. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
