Engine update: calendars, text sizes, and pictures that came back
A new round of fixes went live on the converter today. Same method as always: we compare our output against what Publisher itself produces for real documents, and we fix the differences. Here's the short list.
Calendars and tables. Text now lands in the correct cells. A big day number and a small note can share one cell at their own sizes. Cell background colors survive. The grid lines you see are the grid lines Publisher drew, no more and no fewer.
Text sizes. An empty line between paragraphs no longer changes the size of the text after it. Text with a custom style now gets that style's size. A paragraph with no style of its own no longer borrows the wrong size from its neighbor. And bold stays where you put it instead of spreading.
Pictures that vanished. Some pictures from Publisher 2000-era files converted to nothing at all: watermarks, logos, whole background images. They render now. Large cropped background pictures that came out sideways come out upright.
Lines that vanished. A line drawn with Publisher's default line style used to disappear in conversion. It draws now, in its real color.
Small tilts. A shape rotated just a few degrees used to come out perfectly straight. Now it tilts the way you tilted it.
Every fix applies to all three exports: PDF, Word, and IDML for InDesign or Affinity.
That's the list. Three of these are bigger stories than one paragraph can hold, so we'll publish a short post on each one this week: calendars, text sizes, and the missing pictures. If a file of yours came out wrong in one of these ways, run it again. The fixes are already live.
